Community Empowerment

At Alabrar, we believe that communities can support themselves well but only when they are empowered with the assistance and interventions that they do not have by themselves. With skills, training and dialogue communities thrive and are more likely over some of the challenges and make rational decisions. Providing a platform when conversations can take place helps communities become aware and able to community for their interests.

We adopt a Bottom-Up approach to effectively engage communities, mobilize their locally available resources, bring new ideas, and leadership at community levels, to tackle issues that shape their lives and persuade a more cohesive and an equal society.

Under this program, we have the following:

Community Conversation: This is done monthly, where we bring influential community members to discuss predetermined themes and topics. We carry out community outreach, to identify areas to be discussed, the impact of that issue on people, ways that can be resolved and finally organize a talk, where in some cases a professional may give a talk and interact with other attendees, questions, and comments.

Guidance and support sessions: This program guidance, and support programs to local communities in and around Islington. This has been our main provision to members of local communities who cannot support themselves in their day-to-day life, due to limited or lack of language and internet skills. Among the many others, the project contains free but bookable translation hours, email communications, online/paper forms for employment, digitally available public services, home office documents. The hub further runs a medium-sized conference and meeting facility for meetings and other social events. The venue is reserved for community gatherings, workshops, and conversations.
